Last night, Governor Newsom signed SB 129 offering amendments to the California budget framework and providing final approval on Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia’s (D-Coachella) slate of Eastern Coachella Valley budget priorities. This action officially secures the $30 million Garcia requested for the safe relocation of Oasis Mobile Home Park residents and $7 million to support a critical Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) water infrastructure project along Avenue 66 in Mecca.

Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia Lauds Over $9 Million Sate Investment For Imperial Valley Housing Projects

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) is excited to announce that Imperial Valley has procured over $9 million of additional investments toward affordable housing. The California Department of Housing and Community Development has notified Garcia that projects in Calexico and Heber are among the latest to be awarded Joe Serna, Jr. Farmworker Housing Grant (FWHG) Program funding; the Calexico Remington project will receive $4,351,909, and the Heber Del Sol Family Apartments $4,894,682. The FWHG program provides grants or deferred-payment loans for the construction and rehabilitation of housing for agricultural workers and their families.

General Motors to partner on Salton Sea lithium production for electric vehicle batteries

Batteries are and will remain one of the largest cost drivers of electric vehicles. Lithium is a key battery material used in the cathodes and electrolytes of GM electric vehicles like the Chevrolet Bolt EV and Bolt EUV. Lithium will become even more important in battery use as GM explores lithium metal batteries with a protected anode.
